John Dand murdered Walter Wyld 72 who he battered and stabbed at 199 Huntingdon Road, York on 27 January 1951. He was found dead in his kitchen.

After the murder police found £73 in a box in a gas oven at Walter Wyld's home. The court heard that John Dand, who was a press operator had stolen £3.

Walter Wyld died from a 7 inch stab wound through the heart and had burst the muscles in his own arms with the force he used to defend himself.

John Dand said 'We had a row about money. it was an accident and I left him there.'
